Blackmans Bay
A contemporary coast house with a romantic soul.
The project took place in the picturesque and serene neighbourhood of Blackmans Bay, where we had the opportunity to engage in the redevelopment of a remarkable contemporary residence. Our involvement began early in the planning stages, thanks to our delightful client who wished for a modern and private garden that would accommodate the varying levels of the land.
This garden was our first opportunity to use gabion walls, which not only provided structural support but also harmonized beautifully with the warm hues of the hardwood timber deck.
Encircling the property is an elegant timber batten fence that wraps around the corner perimeter. This fence strikes a balance between minimal transparency and privacy, allowing glimpses into the garden while maintaining a sense of seclusion.
The planting scheme was meticulously crafted, and divided into distinct sections based on sun exposure. In the sun-drenched areas, we featured coastal, drought-resistant plants that embody the hardy essence of a Mediterranean landscape. In contrast, the garden underneath the ornamental cherry tree was designed as a romantic, part-shaded cottage garden, teeming with lush, softer foliage that invites tranquil moments amid nature.
